The Post

The Post

Over the years the Jamaica Post has evolved in keeping with the country’s changing business environment and communication needs.

The postal services began in 1671, the first among British colonies.

As the need for reliable postal service grew in tandem with a booming sugar export driven economy, Edward Dismore was appointed Jamaica’s first Postmaster General in 1754. He established a network of Post Offices throughout the island, many of which remain today.

Currently Jamaica Post has a network of almost 600 post offices across the island. They offer local and overseas postal services for letters and parcels, including express mail; commercial services, such as kiosks for paying utility bills and cashing pension cheques, as well as the sale of postage and commemorative stamps.

Here are a few images of Jamaica Post offices and stamps from the mid-1800s to 2016.
