Edna Manley College Marks 40 Years

Edna Manley College Marks 40 Years

The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts celebrates four decades this year.  It is the only college of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean, which offers education in the arts at levels that meet international standards.

From the 1950s educational programmes in visual and performing arts were emerging, which led to the establishment of schools for dance, drama, music and visual arts.

In 1976, all four schools were brought together as a full-time tertiary institution under the aegis of the Cultural Training Centre, an arm of the Institute of Jamaica.

The college was given its present name in1995 in honor of the late Edna Manley, sculpture and founding member of the School of Visual Arts.  Recognized by the Organization of American States as the Inter-American Centre for Caribbean Cultural Development, the college is a key regional cultural resource.

If you are in Kingston visit the Edna Manley College new addition, Art Stock and purchase artworks of young visual artists from across the Caribbean.
